Undergrowth is a book of 52 drawings about an imagined parallel universe, an explosion of organisms in inner and outer space, a journey through the hairy underbelly of desert and the intestinal depths of the forest!

Portrait of Sunny Nestler, person in glasses and a black graphic tee shirt against a fabric background with artwork Sunny Nestler is a grateful and uninvited wandering queer Jew on unceded Coast Salish territories belonging to the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. Nestler’s visual art practice is rooted in drawing, and studies mechanisms of biological life using a process that mimics DNA replication and mutation. Their subject matter cross-pollinates ecological processes, for example the growth of an organism, or the changing interpretation of scientific gender markers.

Nestler’s past work includes collaborative animation, community-led arts programming, a recent municipal commission, as well as thirteen years of managing community bike shops. Nestler sits on the board of UNIT/PITT Society for Art and Critical Awareness and teaches art and science classes at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
